Description

“Michael's playing keeps me interested in the performance--spellbound, at times--from the first note to the last. There's never a moment I'm not thinking "wow" on all levels. This is jazz for adults only.” - Hal Crook (Jazz trombone legend, Berklee College of Music Professor)

"...Michael Palma...musical savant...with talent and music to spare." - The Dallas Weekly

"Michael Palma is a very skilled and musically deep pianist and improvisor. His stream of consciousness in the unfolding of linear ideas is truly remarkable! His solos are always interesting to listen to as he develops ideas and makes all of the features of the harmony crystal clear! I am proud to know this young man and see a great future for him as a professional player!" – Dan Haerle (Regents Professor Emeritus in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, Author of the Jazz Sound, the Jazz Language, and Scales for Jazz Improvisation)

“...Michael's composition of "Creepo the Thief is the standout of Melissa Aldana's entire Free Fall album." - Downbeat Magazine

“Michael Palma is an extremely talented pianist whose playing is rich with tradition as well as refreshingly new perspectives that are always swinging.” - Ralph Peterson Jr. (Jazz drumming legend, Berklee College of Music Professor)

Tonight's Jazz Night is a benefit for Esther Phelps

Tonight's Jazz Night at the Amsterdam Bar is a benefit for Esther Phelps. Esther is the wife of North Texas bassist Drew Phelps, and right now she is battling breast cancer without insurance. Shelley Carrol and Brad Leali are dedicating tonight's performance to Esther and Drew.

The guys who play the jazz and the folks who run the Amsterdam Bar, along with all our fantastic regulars, would like to help this family that has been so good to so many people.

There's no cover and no fixed donation tonight, but every little bit that you can spare will help Esther and Drew at this critical point in their lives. Hopefully our little community can pull together and make a difference for them. So come out tonight and enjoy the jazz and the beer, and share the love.

Jazz Night with the Three Lions food truck

We're looking forward to having the Three Lions Truck out front tomorrow night for Jazz night.
When Cameron Bonfield, came to Texas he did not anticipate starting and running a food truck concept in the emerging food truck scene of Dallas, but fate dealt him a hand he had to play. Joined by his brother Scott in in the fall of 2011, the two worked hard to bring flavorful tacos with a bit of South African spice to the DFW Metroplex. They were able to create a cult following, but something always bugged them. The food they were serving was great, but it didn’t say anything about who they were. Tacos? Englishmen? What is the connection? They began to serve some more traditional English fare along with the tacos and saw demand for the food quickly grow. So, early in 2012 they made the decision to start over and Three Lions food truck was born. A concept that was wholly about their heritage and a higher calling to represent English cuisine in a positive way to the DFW Metroplex. They now run and operate the Three Lions food truck bringing fast, delicious English fare to America.
So here's the value proposition: some of the best authentic English style pub grub paired with a beer from our award winning selection and topped off with the very best jazz in Dallas, Texas. How can you resist? Trick question; you shouldn't resist. Get here early so you can order dinner and get a table for jazz night.
