We are feeling a little "Lakewood" today
Lakewood Brewing Co. is a local brewery in Garland, Texas. We were feeling a little "Lakewood today," so we're tapping in their Lager, Zomer Pilz, and Rock Ryder! Here are the key statistics.
Beer Name: Lakewood LagerAll three beers weigh in at under 5% ABV, making them good session beers for the hot Texas summer! The Amsterdam Bar is proud to offer local craft beers like Lakewood Brewing Co.'s line of beers.
Beer Style: Vienna-Style Lager
ABV: 4.6%
IBU: 23
SRM: 12
This amber lager starts with a subtle caramel aroma. The coppery hue draws you into its balanced flavor of light malty sweetness and round noble hop bitterness. It finishes dry and clean. Leaving your palate refreshed for another glass.
Beer Name: Zomer Pils (Summer Seasonal)
Beer Style: Czech-Style Pilsner
ABV: 4.8%
IBU: 34
SRM: 3
In summer, Belgians head to the nearest beach, while Texans typically race towards the nearest source of shade. That's because the European sun is far friendlier than the fiery ball glowing over the Lone Star State. Combat the heat with our Zomer Pils. Brewed with Belgian pilsner malt and noble hops, this traditional pilsner is light, crisp, and refreshing. So let that sun keep on burning.
Beer Name: Rock Ryder
Beer Style: Rye/Wheat Beer
ABV: 4.8 %
IBU: 20
SRM: 4
This is a wheat beer for the masses. It pours with a white head and has a cloudy straw color. The addition of rye malt gives it a complexity and subtle pepperiness that's only accentuated by the hops. It's light and refreshing with just enough bite and flavor to quench a Texas summer sized thirst.

Fireworks tonight!
From "I fucking love science":
The chemistry of 4th July fireworks.
Sodium produces yellow/gold colors. Barium creates green, copper compounds produce blue, strontium salts give you red and titanium metals give you silver coloured sparks.
Other commonly used chemicals are carbon which provides the fuel, oxidizers which produce oxygen for burning, magnesium which increases the overall brilliance and brightness, antimony that gives you a "glitter" effect and calcium which deepens the colors.
Fireworks at Fair Park tonight!
As always we will be open regular hours for the Fourth of July! Today is a perfect day to relax in our beer garden and enjoy a few cold beers before heading over to Fair Park to enjoy the fireworks!
The video above is from last year's celebration. Getting this year's celebration off to a good start at the Amsterdam Bar!

New beer on tap: Lakewood Brewing Co.'s Till & Toil Farmhouse Saison
I love beer. It changes with the seasons like produce. The stouts and porters have given way to wits and saisons. It's beautiful. Lakewood's Saison is fabulous, and we're happy to have it on tap at the Amsterdam Bar.
Beer Name: Till & Toil (Spring Seasonal) Style: Farmhouse Saison ABV: 6.4% IBU: 21
With spring comes renewal. Whether tilling a field or simply mowing the yard, hard work should be rewarded appropriately. This crisp, thirst-quenching, rustic farmhouse saison pairs perfectly with the warming weather of the season. Notes of grapefruit, pineapple and peach are derived from the unique hops used in the brew.
Four Corners "Local Buzz" on tap!
The brewers at Four Corners Brewing Co. in Dallas, Texas are Dallas natives who are enthusiastic about craft beer. They are interested in creating beers that compliment the unique food, music, art, and culture in Dallas, Texas. Their motto is "local flavor," and it is reflected in their beer.
The Amsterdam Bar now has "Local Buzz" on tap. Local Buzz is a refreshing Honey-Rye Golden Ale. Locally sourced honey provides floral notes and a sweet aroma. This sweetness is balanced against rye malt that provides a clean, spicy finish.

Great write-up on the Amsterdam Bar

The Amsterdam Bar has received a great write-up over at the Dallas Observer:
In a town that pays actual respect to the glitteriest, shiniest new thing on the block, it's easy to take the classics for granted. I generally regard my distaste for nostalgia as a positive thing, but the test of time is not easy to pass and must therefore be honored. Like a worn-in t-shirt or a faded old denim jacket, there are some nights in this town that will wait for you, welcome you back with open arms and cold drinks as if you had never left to begin with. You can read the rest of Gloria Levario's "The Antidote to Dallas' Love Affair with Shiny New Things" at the Dallas Observer.
Dallas always looks its most beautiful on these early Spring patio days. That nip in the breeze at night makes staying out past sunset all the more enjoyable before the melting summer begins. We could cover Dallas' variant patios in a million different categories but when I imagine an evening under the fuzzy North Texas stars, I immediately reach for The Amsterdam Bar.
